The Tourist Board of the Municipality of Vojnić has once again joined the sustainable tourism development project “Hrvatska prirodno tvoja – Croatia Naturally Yours”, implemented by the Croatian National Tourist Board (CNTB) and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia.
The Director of the CNTB, Mr. Kristjan Staničić, PhD, adopted a Decision on the allocation of funds to local tourist boards for the procurement of tree seedlings in 2025 within this project. The goal of the initiative is to reduce the carbon footprint generated by tourism activities and to contribute to the global objectives of the Glasgow Declaration on Forests and Land Use. At the same time, the project promotes sustainable tourism development and strengthens Croatia’s image as a sustainable tourist destination.
Under this decision, the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Vojnić received financial support in the amount of €1,149.99. On 12 November 2025, in cooperation with the Municipality of Vojnić, Zelenilo d.o.o. Karlovac, and the local utility company Vojnić komunalac d.o.o., a total of 10 trees were planted:
- 6 Cornelian cherries (Cornus mas L.),
- 2 wild cherries (Prunus avium L.), and
- 2 small-leaved limes (Tilia cordata Mill.).
The planting took place at several locations:
• one lime tree was planted next to the Vojnić Kindergarten,
• four Cornelian cherries and one lime tree in the park at Stjepan Radić Square in the town center,
• two wild cherries and two Cornelian cherries at the parking area near the football field.
When selecting the species, special attention was given to indigenous trees characteristic of this area, in line with the recommendations of the Faculty of Forestry, University of Zagreb.
Each tree has been marked with the “Croatia Naturally Yours” project sign and recorded in the European Environment Agency’s “Map My Tree” application:
This commendable project serves as an example of good practice in environmental protection and sustainable tourism development. The Tourist Board of the Municipality of Vojnić will continue to engage in similar activities in the future, with the aim of planting trees wherever possible — to provide residents, tourists, and visitors with a more pleasant stay and the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of our municipality.
